Hockey Apparel -What To Look For In A Hockey Jersey

When buying a hockey jersey there are many things you will want to consider.

The first thing you need to consider are your particular need. Why do you need a hockey jersey? Do you need the jersey for game play? Are you looking for a jersey of a favorite player to show your support during games or just as a collector’s item?

Yet, it is the case that your hockey coach will likely explain the specific type of jersey you will need.

Each league has their own requirements from the pee wee leagues all the way to the National Hockey League (NHL). In some cases, your hockey jersey will be provided to you by the league, but if not, or if you are looking for a jersey to practice with your friends, here are a few things you should look for.

In many leagues, the tie down and the sleeves are very important requirements. The tie down, if unused or not on the jersey, could be a cause for penalty in a variety of leagues for many different reasons. “Tying down” the jersey allows for the jersey to stay in place, which is effective for seamless plays. It can also help a player when it comes to any type of conflict.

In many cases, the opposing team member, in which a player is in a conflict, pull the jersey over the head of the other player, which can cause further injuries or even loss of a fight, out of lack of fairness. Therefore, it is stated within many regulations, in various hockey leagues that the hockey jersey needs to be tied all the time or face a penalty.

Another rule in hockey is in regards to the sleeves on a hockey jersey. In hockey, you will notice that the sleeves are generally long; this is a must for many leagues. You want to look for a hockey jersey that will fit you appropriately and have a sleeve length that extends no further and no less than the gloves cuff.

The materials you want to look for are generally standard of all jerseys, though some may be mesh and some may be what is called air knit. Either way, you want a material that promotes comfort. Therefore, you want a hockey jersey that is made with a material that allows for durability, fast drying time, and breathable for allowing the body to keep cool during a strenuous workout.

The colors are up to you or the team you play for, there are a variety of colors to choose from, so the choice is yours. However, you do have a choice in a v-neck or a round-neck collar, whichever feels more comfortable to you. However, again, keep in mind that your specific league or team might have a specific requirement when it comes to all aspects of the hockey jersey.
