Ice Hockey Equipment Starts With Protection

There are so many risks when playing the sport of ice hockey.

There’s the hard, cold ice, other player’s hockey skates and the hockey pucks that can be soaring around, sometimes with speeds over 100 MPH!

With all of these hazards in the sport of ice hockey, players need to be properly equipped to protect themselves. Ice Hockey players usually have to wear a lot of equipment, including a helmet, mouth guard, protective gloves, padded shoulders, shins, shorts and elbows, a jock protector, chest protector and a neck guard.

All of this equipment, when worn together, work together to keep the hockey player safer in the rink.

Equipment To Protect The Ice Hockey Player

Probably the two most important pieces of ice hockey equipment are the helmet and the jockstrap. No one wants to get whipped in the head or groin with a puck going about 100 MPH. That will not only be painful, but can cause long-term problems.

It is extremely important to have a helmet that fits your head properly. If you are using a helmet that doesn’t fit you properly, you could suffer an injury. The inside should be tight around the back of your head, but should be comfortable at the same time. There are adjustments that you can make to your helmet to help make sure that it fits properly. It shouldn’t be loose anywhere and should stay on where you put it. You certainly don’t want your helmet to turn and blind you while you are playing.

Jockstraps are extremely important for men players. They protect their groin area, which, without protection, could suffer painful injuries and even long-term health problems. No man wants that. Jockstraps are made like underwear with an elastic waistband, but also have the all-important support pouch for protection. The support pouch usually has a cup to protect a man’s testicles during play.

Last but not Least

Ice hockey wouldn’t be ice hockey without the stick and the ice skates – the two most vital pieces of hockey equipment needed in order to play the sport.

Ice hockey sticks measure about 200 centimeters long, with the blade measuring about fifteen centimeters long. The ice hockey stick looks like an L because of the 45-degree angle made between the shaft and the blade.

The boot portions of ice hockey skates are made out of leather, plastic and nylon. The blades are smooth, unlike figure stakes that have a toe pick on the front.
